The NHFCS is pleased to announce the 2014 Division 1 champions; The Christ Prep Patriots of Kansas City, Kansas.

Despite the Lighthouse chargers winning the most recent head-to-head showdown, the Maxpreps computers say that Christ Prep has demonstrated a better season and slightly better power rating.   When you cancel out the 2 games that Christ Prep & Lighthouse split,  the only other close comparison comes in the 2 teams from Missouri (Maysville & El Dorado Springs) and the Tulsa NOAH Jaguars.
They both beat NOAH handily, and they each lost to a team with a fairly similar national ranking. But whereas Maysville (#7805) eeked out a 6-point win over the Christ Prep Patriots; El Dorado Springs (#8005) dominated Lighthouse Christian by 21 points.
The NHFCS remains committed to the Rankings system, while seeking credible opportunities for postseason matchups.

Why are the Hickory Hawks not in the rankings? With 9 straight wins in the regular season. While the teams with no wins get ranked. The Carolina Crusaders in our own league, who we beat, are ranked. We went into the NHFA playoffs ranked #11. Now we are out?

The above comment says some teams were removed from the listing because they didn't meet roster reporting requirements, see above.

This year's National Champion is a very flawed pick. The Max Preps rankings should be used to pick the top 4 teams for the National Championship. At that point let the teams play and that result determine who REALLY is the National Champ. If Max Preps is the only way the champions will be decided, then tell everyone up front so teams don't waste money, time and energy participating in a tournament that won't probably matter anyway. We can all stay home build up our schedule and fight it out over our Max Prep ratings. You should drop the name National Championship Series, because you can win all your scheduled games and walk away with zero. Look at the BCS, 4 teams picked to play based on rankings. Then they have to play and prove it on the field, not win in the computer rankings program. This is unfair to all teams who partcipated this year.

Earle - your assessment is flawed. While it is true that Lighthouse beat Christ Prep in the last game, you may not know that the same 2 teams played a few weeks earlier at Lighthouse's home field and Christ Prep beat Lighthouse 30-14. The loss at home hurt them more than a win on a neutral location helped them. If you read the explanation as to why the rankings ended up they way they did it makes sense.

Until the NHFCS sanctions a postseason tournament, the rankings will be the deciding factor.
We are essentially using the system that college football used for several decades.
Bowl games are currently run by promoters who do not always follow standard rules. The Hickory Hawks used an ineligible high school graduate. The Panama City tournament knew this and still included the Hawks, which is why the NHFCS cannot endorse that tournament.
Some teams who were made aware of the situation still participated. It is up to the teams to hold the promoters responsible to maintain the integrity of the sport and the meaningfulness of costly tournaments.
The computer rankings depart from human rankings in that they treat each game as though it was just played last weekend, thereby ranking seasons more evenly, rather than weighing postseason exhibition games as massively more impacting.
Our stance is that teams with ineligible players ought to be completely removed from Maxpreps database when they put college athletes in a high school game.
Hickory Hawks is guilty of this in 2014. Anderson Cavaliers did this in 2013. It baffles me that the Hickory Hawks were accepted by the same tournament promoter who blew the whistle on the Anderson Cavaliers just one year earlier.
Our hope, moving forward; is that team organizers will step up and demand full rosters from their opponents, in advance of the season. It is also our hope that tournament promoters will show the responsibility needed so they do not diminish the integrity of homeschool varsity athletics, just to turn a profit.
