Rankings Formula

The rapid growth of homeschool football continues throughout the nation. Over 100 organizations are currently providing tackle football to homeschool athletes. At the turn of the century, there were less than 10 registered homeschool teams in the Freeman Scoring database at CBS SportsLine.
A Lesson From College Football
A century ago, major college football was in a similar scenario that we find today for homeschool football. Some regional conferences were formed, but the logistics challenges prevented a meaningful and respectable postseason on a national scale. Any good coaching mentor will say that "good basketball can be played with a day's rest; but good football requires a week of preparation".
The Bowl Option
Many years ago, colleges worked with event promoters to develop key "bowl" matchups between comparable conferences. For instance, the Big Ten champion always played the Pac Ten champion, at the Rose Bowl. The Big Eight champion always played the South East Conference champion, at the Orange Bowl. Several more bowls followed suit and eventually it was always left to the consensus of the polling firms to make a judgment of who's the best. Occasionally, the Sportswriters' Poll disagreed with the Coaches' Poll.
The Homeschool Football Federation works to develop a rankings formula that reflects: the Freeman Ranking, & a Coaches' forum; to determine the National Homeschool Football Chankionship Series Rankings. The Freeman Ranking has been one of the most exhaustive databases of prep football and it's accuracy has been established far beyond any other national ranking system. Massey Ratings and other objective criteria are in development and being reviewed regularly, to determine when they will be reliable indicators for the entire national homeschool sports movement.
Homeschool teams that are currently reporting to MaxPreps.com* and are on the teams list, are currently under consideration for the NHFCS.
How to optimize Exposure and get the most accurate ranking
These organizations are very excited to include your homeschool team and will promptly add your organization. Please have all your organization's coaches and administrators' email and phone info available when you contact these companies.
The Coaches' Forum is a process of communicating circumstances that are not reflected in the accepted statistics that get reported to other databases. This process will be conducted via email.
How to optimize Exposure and get the most accurate ranking
- Report your schedules, scores and stats, thoroughly and promptly. You can't get credit for things that didn't get reported. Incomplete information will hurt your team. False information will destroy your team's reputation. Malicious behavior defeats the very reason you're investing in the lives of the players. Use the MaxPreps Stat Form.
- Play a challenging schedule. The computer rankings reward teams for playing a difficult schedule. An undefeated season against very weak opponents is of little value to your rankings quest, and of little value to your players' development.
- Encourage your opponents to play challenging schedules and finish their season well. Your past opponents' continued success dynamically effects your strength of schedule. It's better to lose to great teams than lose to bad teams. You should hope all your opponents win every game except when they play you.
